Grand Scale Regency Period Library Bergere Chair, Circa 1825 ( Gillows ).

Pure English Regency, Circa 1820.

A particularly fine and large scale Architectural English Regency Period Library Armchair of such particular fashion and dimensions to suggest " a personal commission " rather than the usual well known models.

This individual piece, because of it particular quality suggests the maker of Gillows Lancaster " the premier company making the finest mainly Mahogany furnitures of the period.

Note : - It is almost possible to identify Gillows furniture by examining the wood used. Gillows being probably the largest buyer at the docks in Liverpool, he would almost certainly had first choice of the imported timbers .Naturally ,examining the manner of workmanship and best design helps to corroborate the first conclusion .

The design of this Library Chair is most unusual having the corbels to the rear top side rail- paterae to the back splay legs -sunken panels to the side rails - paterae to the side arms -carved scrolling to the arms and wonderful sunken panels to the back legs . All these feature assembled create one of the very best Bergere Chairs we have encountered in all our many years of fine furniture dealing .
