Anglo Indian Ivory Sewing Compendium.

Rare exceptional Anglo-Indian carved Ivory sewing compendium in the form of a temple.
Exquisitely carved with a pierced gallery. The temple comes apart in three sections, the dome section unscrews to reveal a pin cushion. The gallery section unscrews and reveals two layers the first fitted with Gold scissors, bodkin, pricker and needle case, under this the second layer has two thimbles, four sewing reels, pin cushion, tape & waxer. The bottom section also come apart to reveal a section for threads and other sewing related pieces.

This is such a rare piece in museum quality condition, and clearly never used and most probably a gift as it came from the Duke of Bedfords Estate.

Circa 1840.

This compendium comes with a certificate for a pre-1918 item of outstandingly high artistic, cultural or historical value from the Department for Enviroment, Food and Rural Affairs.
