R N Myers & Son Announce Major Museum Sale
The British Antique Dealers’ Association is delighted to announce that BADA Member Simon Myers, of R N Myers & Son, Gargrave, North Yorkshire, has recently completed the sale of a rare early 18th century leather portrait of Louis XIV to The Museum of Fine Art in Houston.
This portrait is repoussé leather and derives from the circular medallion by François Girardon (1628-1715). It is almost certainly from the Royal Manufacture of Hungarian Leathers of Saint-Denis, established by the King in 1702.
Similar examples can be seen in the public collections of The Getty Museum, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Bordeaux and in the Palace of Versailles.
Simon is the fourth generation of dealers to represent the company of R N Myers & Son, which was established in 1884. We are proud that they have been Members of the British Antique Dealers’ Association since 1962.
