A William and Mary Burr Walnut and Feather Banded Bureau Cabinet.

England, Circa 1700.

All of the metalwork appears to be original and the burr walnut is exceptionally rich and wild. The drawers are all oak lined with the long drawers being side hung. The burr walnut on the sides is also well selected and crossbanded. The cross- grain mouldings have also been well executed. Over all this cabinet demonstrates the work of a leading London cabinetmaker.

The cavetto and end grain moulded cornice is above a pair of shaped arched mirror inset and end grain moulded doors, enclosing sixteen drawers all with end grain ‘D’ and double ‘D’ surrounds, nine pigeon holes and a central open compartment with one shelf. The cabinet top sits upon a bureau. The fall front has a moulded reading rest and encloses a well fitted interior, consisting of six pigeon holes, four drawers, four storage compartments and a well with a sliding top. The well encloses an additional four secret drawers. Below the well are three long graduated drawers and the whole stands on four later bun feet.
