William Gilbert Foster (1855-1906) was a British painter. A senior member of the Staithes group of artists, he had a studio at Runswick Bay for many years. He painted landscapes and rural genre in oil and watercolours. Foster exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy forty times and also at the Royal Society of British Artists. His work is in major private and public collections.
"Be the Day Weary or be the Day Long, At Last it Ryngeth to Evensong" is a beautiful atmospheric example. Measuring 22 x 36 inches the painting is signed lower left and is dated 1906. It is framed in a quality gilt frame giving an overall size of 28 x 41 inches.
