William and Mary Period Walnut Cabinet On Chest.

An Extremely Good Quality And Particularly Charming Late 17th Century, William And Mary Period, Burr Walnut Cabinet On Chest, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Deep Convex Moulded Drawer And Two Superbly Figured Cupboard Doors, Enclosing Seven Interior Drawers With Six Secret Drawers, To Top And Four Long Drawers With Replacement Old Brass Handles To Base, Raised On Replacement Old Shaped Bracket Feet.

Its difficult to know where to start with describing the beauty and charm of this wonderful 17th century walnut cabinet. Maybe a good starting point would be that, the age, after all it is well over 300 years old yet as fit for purpose as the day it was made, which is really quite some achievement.

The cabinet boasts the most wonderful rich colour and patina, clearly it has never been stripped and refinished and is in exactly the condition one would wish to find a lovely piece of antique walnut furniture like this before giving it a lovely wax polish to shine it up.

It is also worth noting that it is significantly smaller than the vast majority of these, or similar items, which we have seen in the past and that is a great help for modern day homes and living from a practical point of view.

Understandably the feet have been replaced at some point in its history, there is evidence that originally it would have sat on turned bun feet, but the current bracket feet certainly do a more than adequate job in their place. Also the handles are old replacements, but they are through the original handle holes and of the style and design which the cupboard would originally have sported.

Behind the bottom drawers of the interior section there is a bank of secret drawers which are cleverly concealed and difficult to locate, a really charming feature.

It is rare to find furniture like this in such lovely condition and this is a real treasure, something to be loved, but also something practical which can be used on a day to day basis.

As with all items which we offer for sale this cabinet has received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale.
