Victorian Silver Vinaigrette - Brighthelmstone, Brighton.

A rare Victorian silver castle-top Vinaigrette of shaped elongated rectangular form. The base with engine turned tartan decoration and a vacant cartouche. The lid engraved with a view of Brighthelmstone (Brighton) showing the Old Chain Pier and Box Office on Marine Parade.

The silver gilt grille pierced with scrolling leaves.

By Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, 1847.

Literature:

The little 'pedestal-shaped' Building in the foreground was the Box-Office where tickets were obtained for access to the pier. One then entered the gate on the left and proceeded to the pier, which was quite a way from the entrance along the marine parade.
