Victorian Silver Bookmark of Samuel Pickwick.

A rare Victorian novelty silver figural Bookmark depicting the character of Samuel Pickwick from Charles Dickens's novel 'Pickwick Papers'. Of flat cut-out form with engraved decoration depicting Mr Pickwick (General Chairman - Member Pickwick Club, addressing the club). Engraved to the reverse - 'Samuel Pickwick Esq. G.C.M.P.C.'.

By A Barrett & Sons, London 1892.

Also stamped with the retailers mark of A Barrett & Sons of Piccadilly, London.

Literature:

Samuel Pickwick is a fictional character and the main protagonist in The Pickwick Papers (1836), the first novel by author Charles Dickens. Pickwick is a retired successful businessman and is the Founder and Chairman of the Pickwick Club.
