A fine quality Victorian oak cased wall timepiece by this well-known clockmaking partnership.The substantial circular solid oak case has a surround to the dial, exceptionally well carved with flowing scrollwork and foliage. The 12 inch circular, silvered and engraved dial is signed ‘Lund & Blockley, TO THE QUEEN, 42 Pall Mall, London’ and has a Slow/Fast regulation square at XII.
The good quality chain fusee movement is of week duration and has an anchor escapement with rise-and-fall regulation enabled from the front of the dial.
J.A. Lund & Herbert Blockley are recorded in partnership at 42 Pall Mall, the former premises of the Viner family of clockmakers, between 1872-1876. The firm was highly regarded for its clocks, turret clocks and specialised watches, taken on explorations sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society at the time.
