Victorian Mahogany Mantel Clock, Hampton & Son, Pall Mall.
A mahogany cased mantel clock in a serpentine top case with carved decoration, standing on a stepped plinth and resting on brass bracket feet.
Glazed door opening to the silvered dial with raised chapter ring, Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘Hampton & Sons, Pall Mall’.
Eight day movement by W&H striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong. Circa 1880.
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Winterhalder and HoFfmeir (W&H) as working in Schwarzenbach (Germany) from 1840 to 1895 when they moved to Neustadt. The firm ceased trading in 1932.
