ENGLAND, CIRCA 1850
With a scalloped-edge, formerly from a polescreen depicting an imaginary scene of two royal figures, the male seated to the right with a figure kneeling before him to the left, the female beneath a parasol held by a servant, with parrots, other birds and flowers within a painted leaf scroll frame.
A pair of comparable polescreens with stands can be found in the Royal Collection (see final image).
A pair of 19th century black japanned wooden pole screens; acorn finials, the tall, slender tapering poles on tripod bases, the shaped rectangular panel with scene of Oriental figures in gardens before a boating lake and pagodas, floral trails on back.
