A very unusual George III silver gilt Handbag Vinaigrette made in Birmingham in 1819 by Thomas Bettridge.

The Vinaigrette is unusually modelled as a Handbag with attached suspensory chain and two plain thumb pieces.

The main body is engraved all over with tear drop motifs and zig zag bands.

The interior displays fine gilding and a grille pierced and engraved with trailing foliate designs and a central flower head, all enclosed within a bright cut frame.

This piece is well marked and in excellent condition. A rare design.
