A very fine George III Drinks Salver made in London in 1781 by Wakelin & Taylor.
The Salver is of an unusual size and is oval in form. The raised border is beautifully decorated with flat fluting and the rim with beading. This combination was widely used in the designs of Wakelin & Taylor.
The Salver stands on four cast flat fluted legs with ball feet. The centre of the salver is engraved with a contemporary shield shaped Armorial, with a Crest and the Motto "Sine Tremore" above, all engraved in the Scottish manner.
The salver is in excellent condition and is of the finest quality as would be expected fromthese silversmiths who were patronised by King George III and his son, the Prince of Wales, later King George IV.
This fine piece is very well marked on the reverse and is engraved with its original scratch weight. This salver would be ideal for serving drinks or standing a decanter and glasses on.
The Arms, Motto and Crest are those of Galbraith, a Scottish family originating, appartently in Dunbartonshire. The inescutcheon of pretence depicts the Arms of Parker.
