Unusual Stylised Silhouette Pheasant Form Weathervane.
Solid Weathered and Well Patinated Sheet Copper with Traces of Original Gilt with Natural Verdigris Surface.
English, circa 1850.
Dimensions
83cms high x 85.5cms wide x 10.5cms deep ( Incl Stand)Condition report
In the original and unusual silhouette form of a standing pheasant , created in thick gauge sheet copper with a lovely rich weathered patina and much natural verdigris surface. There is an historic "in use" strengthening repair around the legs of the bird, where it joins the ground, but this has aged in well itself. The end of the tail has been created by an attached extra piece of sheet copper and the front of the bird is double sheeted for weight and function. There is some evidence of bruising by shot, which is characteristic of such pieces and it is generally in honest as found condition. A delightful primitive example.Stock number
