Early Kashan carpets are highly appreciated for the classical precision of their drawings and the fineness of their weaves. The city of Kashan was the centre of fine rug weaving during the 16th century Safavid period and some of the best workshop pieces are attributed to it.

This Kashan carpet is a highly unusual example  in comparison with other classical examples of its era with elegant characteristics of earlier European pieces of the 18/19th centuries. The fine lambs wool and remarkable tight weave explains the clarity of the drawing and its harmonious vegetable-dyed colours.

A unique example of its type and one that we have not come across for quite a long time.
