This unusual piece is oval in form and the sides of the main body display wide reeded bands interspersed with prick dot engraving.

The sides are also engraved with an upper and lower band of foliate sprays on a scratch engraved ground.  Both the front and reverse display a pretty oval bright cut cartouche, with an unusual crescent of flower heads below, one vacant and the other containing a set of contemporary script initials.

The slightly domed cover is also engraved with the designs shown on the main body and terminates in a silver mounted fruitwood finial.

The tapering straight spout is also decorated with wide raised reeding and displays tiny engraved leaves at the end.  This example has a fruitwood scroll handle and is fully marked on the base and with the sterling mark on the cover.
