Unusual Baktiar Carpet.
3.12 x 3.00 metres.
Bakhtiar carpets, crafted in Northwest Persia, are renowned for being some of the most distinctive and therefore highly coveted Persian rugs. This is due to their unique blend of playful, geometric patterns typical of nomadic and tribal designs, combined with the scale and fine craftsmanship expected from Persian workshop pieces.
This beautiful late 19th-century example features an well balanced, creative all-over design, deviating from the usual central medallion motif. Its large-scale pattern is artfully repeated across the field, showcasing a diverse array of fresh, vegetable-dyed hues, including shades of cornflower blue, warm terracotta, camel and sage green, all encased by a decorative denim blue border.
Kept in very good practical condition for everyday use, with the outer borders intact on all sides – its colours have aged gracefully, developing a rich patina over time.
A handsome tribal rug, with a charming naivety, perfect for adding character and charm to a wide range of interior spaces.
