Turquoise Glazed Duck, Kangxi Period (1662-1722)

Turquoise glazed vessels first appeared from the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368), and continued to be popular in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), especially on ‘fahua’ vessels.
Turquoise monochromes produced in the Ming dynasty are few and far between, and only started being mass produced in the Kangxi period.
The turquoise glazes were more commonly found on non-imperial pieces more suited for the European markets, particularly France and England in the 18th-19th centuries. They were often mounted on elaborate ormolus such as the bamboo brush-pots.
