About the object

An unusual whitewood box with a print of William IV and Neptune. Neptune is crowning William, who was known as the Sailor King, with a laurel wreath. The print also includes a crown, suggesting that the box was made as a souvenir to mark the accession of William IV in 1830. The interior of the box has partitions and was intended for writing materials.
