An ebony veneered spool box inlaid with floral mosaic and attributed to Thomas Barton. Circa 1870.

The interior contains beechwood turned reels housed on a brass rod, which slots into the box. Each spool holds silk thread and is labelled J & R Morley's Extra Super Light Dyes. John and Richard Morley established a hosiery and related accessories business in Nottingham in 1795.
