A handsome octagonal veneered Tunbridge Ware needlework box inlaid with parquetry patterns in a range of foreign and native woods. The lid has a large star motif of fruitwoods of a warm, honey colour, set in a background of coromandel. The frieze has a continuous pattern of vandykes in contrasting veneers of fruitwood and ebony.

Circa 1820.

The interior of the box has a removable tray with partitions, re-lined to match the original ruched silk on the inside of the lid. (some damage to ruching). A miniature parquetry needlebook dating circa 1840 has been added together with some rosewood winders.

Popular patterns found on veneered Tunbridge Ware in the early 19th century included large perspective cubes, vandykes, star and fan-shaped motifs.
