A Tunbridge Ware box with the uncommon, early tessellated mosaic image of St. George and the Dragon set within a central roundel and with borders of miniature parquetry. The interior re-lined.
Circa 1835-40.
The St. George and the Dragon design was likely to have been used on Tunbridge Ware after the recoinage programme following the Napoleonic Wars introduced the sovereign with this design. The circular motif on this box was probably intended to resemble a coin.
