A fine quality Tunbridge Ware box veneered in bird's eye maple with a view of Battle Abbey Cloisters within floral borders. This is one of two views of Battle Abbey from the workshop of Henry Hollamby, produced in the 1870's when interest in Battle Abbey was increased following the 800th anniversary of 1066.

The view depicts a mansion, incorporating part of the Perpendicular arches of the cloisters, which the architect Henry Clutton updated and extended in 1857. The building is now occupied by Battle Abbey School.

The box has been re-lined in green silk.
