A Tunbridge Ware box with a very unusual perspective cube pattern to the lid. One side of each complete cube comprises contrasting slices of veneer, as they might typically be used for tessellated mosaic work. This central panel is set within stylised borders to the lid and frieze. The box is lined in a red 'tartan' paper.
The borders and lining suggest an attribution of Edmund Nye. This unusual cube design may have been an experimental design by Nye's then designer, Thomas Barton.
Circa 1855-60.
