A rosewood veneered cushion-topped box with a fine view of Great Malvern Priory Church to the lid and set within floral borders. The interior lined with original magenta silk. This is one of Henry Hollamby's most distinctive views.
Circa 1870
The discovery of the medical value of Malvern water in the 1750's led to the rapid development of Malvern as a residential spa. During the 19th century visitors included royalty and members of the gentry and once the railway had reached Malvern in 1859, their numbers were swelled by day trippers from as far a-field as Manchester.
