A Tunbridge Ware Bezique box inlaid with scrolling and geometric mosaic and with 'Bezique' in mosaic. Contains pegs, markers and rules. Labelled T. Barton, Late Nye, Mount Ephraim & Parade, Tunbridge Wells.

Circa 1870

The game of Bezique came to England from Paris, where it achieved great popularity in the 1860’s. It is played with 64 cards from two packs, using the ace down to seven. It was Sir Winston Churchill’s favourite card game.
