Condition report

A Quite remarkable historic trade sign with direct provenance to H W Trickett's, slipper makers, for whom it was originally commissioned. This example comes with provenance directly from the workshops it was made for. Hand painted in oils and house paints on heavy canvas it is has several estate repairs and patches. The canvas has buckled a little in places and there is evidence of heavy historic varnishes. It is housed in the frame it had been hanging in and has retained excellent colours and definition. Excitingly graphic and unusually incorporating a portrait of the founder, this is a most unusual piece of social history, as well as a compellingly unusual documentary trade sign from the latter years of the industrial revolution. Significant in scale, in as found and slightly compromised but reassuringly untouched condition, this is special.
