Thomas Maidment (1871-1952) was a landscape painter who devoted about 40 years in Cornwall to depicting life and scenery there. He was born in London and studied at Royal College of Art, winning a diploma and travelling scholarship. Before World War I he moved to Newlyn, then lived in Penzance, St Ives and Helston and in his final year in Torquay, Devon. Showed at RA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, elsewhere in the provinces and was included in "A Century of Art in Cornwall 1889–1989", Newlyn Orion Galleries, 1989. Brighton Corporation and St Ives Town Council hold his work.
The present picture "St. Ives from the Fields" is a charming old watercolour measuring 13"x 17". It is mounted and framed into an old oak frame giving an overall size of 20"x 24". It is signed lower right. A lovely old picture of St Ives in Cornwall.
