Thomas Cole, London: An engraved eight-day strut clock

A particularly fine eight-day travelling strut clock by Thomas Cole, circa 1850. Although not signed by Cole on the dial, the name 'Cole' is clearly stamped behind the mask.
The shaped oval silvered dial has Roman numerals with fine floral engraving to the centre and typical Cole style blued steel hands. To the top of the case is a hinged oval handle which can be lowered when the clock is put into its travelling case. Beneath the dial is a finely engraved silvered rectangular panel behind bevelled glass and this is surrounded by further engraved and gilded decoration.
The clock has its original leather covered travelling case lined with blue velvet and the shape of this follows the lines of the clock. When taken out of the case a curved bar at the base may be rotated so as to enable the clock to stand upright. Complete with original winding key.
