Signed Square Format Tabriz Carpet.
2.60 x 2.46 metres.
The city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia has long been renowned as a hub for Persian arts, culture, literature, and especially its carpets, with a tradition that dates back to the 14th century. Due to its strategic location, Tabriz carpets incorporate influences from neighbouring Azerbaijan and Turkey, making them some of the most diverse in Persia. Antique Tabriz rugs, in particular, are celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and strong connection to the Classical Persian rug weaving traditions.
This striking example from the 1930s bears the signature of one of the master weavers of its era, known as the artist behind some of the period's most creative, sought after pieces. It features an grand scale floral design inspired by 17th-century Safavid weavings, set against a soft ochre red ground. The pale tone of the central field serves as a wonderful backdrop to the variety of vegetable-dyed colours in its design, including sage green, indigo and ivory, all framed by an ivory border of generous width. Its spacious, well-proportioned design comes in a rare square format.
Kept in very good condition for everyday use, with all its borders fully intact, this fine mid-century piece exudes a relaxed elegance and is versatile enough to complement a wide range of interiors.
