Tabriz Carpet, circa 1920
3.14 x 2.69 m.
A charming early 20th century Tabriz carpet with a creative drawing. Each design in the central field is tastefully repeated in different patterns with an array of naturally dyed colours. This Tabriz is framed by a wide border of great proportion.
In very good practical condition for everyday use, still retaining its original outer borders and fringes on both sides; a timeless classic, is rare in this squarish format.
The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has a long heritage of rug weavings since the 14th century. As heir to such a long tradition, no other rug-producing region in Persia can claim such a wide variety of designers and pattern types.
