Dated: 1810 Sussex England
An earthenware orange-bodied slipware Tobacco jar decorated with flower heads within a band and a profusion of stars in geometric patterns. The pot with the initials S S and the date August 31 st 1810 in slip decoration. The metal lid has a brass finial. An example of this jar ( dated 1812) located in the Stoke on Trent Museum also has a metal cover. This piece is of exceptional rarity and probably presented as a gift.
