Superb lidded silver dish with spoon by Charles Ashbee.

For sale is this outstanding two handled bowl with enamelled lid, by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft, with original spoon.  The finial of both the bowl’s lid and spoon are set with a blister pearl.  The enamel to the lid is original classic Guild of Handicraft blue and in perfect condition.  The bowl retains its original powel glass liner.  The whole piece is a remarkable survivor.

Alan Crawford describes this porringer design as the most “characteristic and successful” application of Ashbee’s graceful use of wirework in silver.

The bowl is marked for London 1902, the lid and spoon for 1903.  For a near identical example held by the Victorian and Albert Museum see this link.
