Superb Figural Character Gentleman Coquilla snuff box.
Figural snuff box Gentleman Character. Superbly carved expressive face with his tongue poking out. He has a waistcoat, britches and overcoat. The waistcoat and overcoat feature buttons made from pieces of bone as buttons. The maker has also used these to good effect as eyes. He is in superb overall condition just having one foot as a historic replacement, albeit very well done. He stands 8 cms tall. Inside the flap at the back is an inventory number from a previous collection.the pin hinge is original, still works well and is strong. Circa 1840.
