Superb late 18th, early 19th Century Erotic Monk snuff box. The flap with it’s original hinge rises up when the string is pulled to reveal the Monks modesty, shocking the person being offered snuff…….In fact, the snuff is in a compartment in the back, the lid of which slides down.
A little time worn but all in original condition. Traces of the original Polychrome can be seen including a skin colour on his legs and face, especially the ears. His Habit looks to have been black. Everything still works as it should. There are supports to keep the rear lid from dropping inward. A lovely genuine example for a collection.
