A Very Fine Quality Regency Period Mahogany Channel Islands
Design Wardrobe Having Elegant Broken Swan Neck Pediment
With Original Brass Roundel Decoration Over Superbly Figured
And Crossbanded Panelled Doors Enclosing Brass Hanging Rail
Raised On Superb Carved Paw Feet

( Channel Island wardrobes were inspired by the French Armoire, but made
in the English style of the period and they were intentionally made for ease
of moving and installation from one part of a house to another. You start by
lifting the cornice off and this then allows the 2 panelled chestnut backboards
to be unscrewed from the sides. The doors can then be removed at the hinges
and this allows the sides to simply lift out of the base. Once these steps are
followed it allowed the wardrobe to be installed in even the smallest of houses
with the tightest of staircases. It is then very easy to reassemble in reverse as
everything simply slots into place and the back panels are fixed with a few
screws.

This particular example is one of the nicest we have owned with an incredible
elegance for a relatively large piece of furniture. It has a very elegant broken
swan neck pediment which is a most unusual feature, but this can also be
removed and put to one side should there be any height restrictions in the items
potential space. The mahogany used for the panels is very highly figured and has
a lovely warm, rich colour to it. There is also a large amount of cross banded
decoration which is also quite a rare feature on wardrobes of this type. The
overall beauty of the piece is finished nicely with the exceptionally executed
carved paw feet which are of course original and add real character to the piece.)
