Striking Senneh carpet circa 1890.

Antique Senneh rugs from north west Persia are prized for their exceptional quality, fine delicate designs and distinctive weaving technique. They are beautifully composed relics of an era represented by unmatched quality and craftsmanship much coveted today.

Woven in handspun wool, this handsome early Senneh carpet has a classic monochrome overall drawing. The muted blue field provides great contrast to the variety of vegetable dyed colours that have aged nicely. The central field is being framed by over dozen creative borders that are still intact on the four sides of the rug. The remarkable tight weave explains the clarity of its crisp drawing.

This circa 1890 Senneh carpet is in well preserved condition for every day use, still retaining its dozen borders on four sides, a rare feature in a carpet of this age.

A handsome example, rare in this large format with a quiet formality to blend in a wide variety of settings.
