A Striking Neo-Classical Console Table, in the George III Manner.
Drawing on the work of the designer Thomas Chippendale, the table of demi-lune outline, constructed in a beautifully figured and grained satinwood, inlaid and cross banded; rising from tapering square legs terminating in spade feet, the legs inlaid with pendant bellflower husks and paterae above; the apron of conforming semi-elliptical shape, crossbanded, with marquetry panels of neoclassical cartouches interspersed with ribbon-tied floral bouquets; the tops having radially laid veneers in a fan shape, with five marquetry oval emblems of musical instruments and cupids surrounded by scrolling foliage. Bearing the retailer's paper label "M. Butler" of Dublin.
English, circa 1900.
