Georgian mahogany Longcase clock by John Paine, Brentford.

A slim finely figured flame mahogany case with stepped base and raised moulding to the plinth.  Long break arch trunk door with brass escutcheon, break arch hood with reeded brass inset pillars supporting the dial.

Brass dial with finely matted centre, raised silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals signed ‘John Paine, Brentford’ to the arch on a silvered boss, original finely cut ‘blued’ steel hands.

Fine quality eight day movement with ringed and knopped pillars striking the hours on a centrally mounted bell.  Circa 1770.

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists John Paine as working in London circa 1768.
