A Georgian period portrait of an English gentleman; Sir Lynch Salusbury Cotton (1706-1775) M.P. for Denbighshire.

Painted in oil on canvas and within a period ebonized fruitwood moulding frame with a craved and giltwood sight-edge.

Our subject is identified in script to the reverse of the canvas as Sir Lynch Cotton, a later typed label states 'Picture of a member of the Cotton Family bequeathed under the Will of Mrs Beatrice Mainwaring to her brother the Reverend Henry Stapleton Cotton for his life'. He stands before trees and shrubbery and an architectural element, perhaps that of Combermere Abbey before it was Gothicized by Stapleton Cotton, from around 1814.

Canvas 24 ins x 28 7/8 ins  o.s: 30 ins x 35 ins.
