Shirvan Rug - 19th Century.
Antique Shirvan rugs are one of the most sought-after pieces from the Caucasus. They are highly decorative rugs with a formality and stylistic complexity setting them apart from other rugs of the region.
This handsome Shirvan dates back to 1880. The artistic drawing is well-balanced considering its small format.
The muted grey colour field is a great contrast to the array of vegetable-dyed colours which include: soft red, light blue and ivory. It is framed by a wide border. The high-density knots engender the clarity of the crisp drawing.
An exquisite example that stands out from other traditional examples.
