A Settee in the Early Georgian Manner.
Constructed in red walnut, and reupholstered recently in a patterned damask; rising from cabriole legs with ‘hairy paw’ feet, with lion masks atop: the serpentine front and side rails carved with acanthus foliates; swept foliate carved arms terminate in eagle heads, conjoining the drop in seat with the shaped back.
Circa 1890.
Herbert Cescinsky's seminal three volume work 'English Furniture of the Eighteenth Century', published in 1911, illustrates similar settees on pp 65/66.
