A Set of Six George III Mahogany Side Chairs.

England, circa 1765.

A set of six George III mahogany side chairs in the manner of Thomas Chippendale.  Each chair with an elaborate finely carved interlaced back splat above a drop-in seat with upholstered cushion, standing on square chamfered legs joined by an H-stretcher. 

The mahogany of fine colour throughout with crisply carved details.

Height: 28 in (96.5 cm).

Width: 21 in (53 cm).

Depth: 20½ in (52 cm).

Thomas Chippendale, in his The Gentleman & Cabinet-Makers Director, produced many designs for chair backs from which these chairs clearly draw their inspiration.
