A Fabulous & Charming Matched Set Of Six Mid 19th Century, Ash And Elm, Farmhouse Kitchen Windsor Chairs, Having Elegant Vertical Stick Backs And Turned Upright Supports, Over Well Figured Shaped Seats, Raised On Attractive Turned Legs And Stretchers.

These beautiful and charming chairs are a “matched” set, sometimes referred to as a “harlequin” set, due to the fact that although they are extremely similar there appears to be some variations on some of the design elements and also on some of the dimensions, with the chairs all being roughly the same size, but not identical sizes.

It takes relatively close inspection to notice any difference whatsoever in all honesty and it is of course most common for sets of English Windsor chairs to be “matched”, or “harlequin” sets due to the fact that so many of basically the same design were produced in workshops throughout the country but at slightly different times.

It was quite rare for Windsor chairs to actually be made and supplied in a set all at the same time, with families instead tending to order them on an ad hoc, when required type basis.

These chairs are constructed from lovely ash and elm timbers and have retained a lovely colour and patina to go with how beautifully figured they are.

They are sound in construction with no loose joints to speak of and have been through our workshop for a good clean and polish.

They have real elegance, but also practicality and are surprisingly comfortable to sit on for day to day use. They would suit a wide variety of tables and styles of house.
