A handsome set of twelve (10+2) George III Hepplewhite period mahogany dining chairs in the manner of Gillows; the arched back with three pierced splats above stuff-over seat and raised on square tapering legs. One armchair is of later date.

The three splat back was a design popular with Gillows' clients, a variation is illustrated in the Workmen's Agreement of 1785. Depending on the desires of the client this versatile design could be refined and adapted for each individual order. The incised line detail to the splats and legs was clearly requested by this client as was the additional of comfort of having a serpentine front seat rail.
