Antique Sarouk Fereghan carpet which is extremely fine with beautiful vegetable dyes. Town carpets from this region always display intricate floral designs with vines and central medallions.  The detailing is remarkable and with pale greens on the ivory corners the design and tones create a stunning classical carpet.  The deep indigo blue medallion has a vast network of scrolling vine-work which again is outstanding with the rich warm terracotta main field colour.  The condition of this carpet is very good indeed, with a constant pile throughout most of this refined piece.  There are some minimal areas of lower pile which are to be expected of a carpet of this age but no significant wear or damage and still extremely durable.  We have professionally washed this carpet ourselves and it is ready for use on the floor.  Our excellent underlay would also add great strength to it and aid is longevity.

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries,  Sarouk Fereghan carpets like this constituted some of the most impressive examples of the great revival of classical Persian rug weaving, far more so than the Sarouk carpets of subsequent generations. Here a grand scalloped circular medallion with profuse floral detail floats within a rich ornamental array of sprawling vines and shrubberies, all set against a lovely rose-wine colored field with small ivory corner pieces as an extra accent. Complex floral cartouches make up the main border with flanking minor borders for extra framing emphasis. The lush, lustrous pile provides the perfect complement to the overwhelmingly delicate coloration of soft green, saffron, and ivory tones.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please request a home visit to arrange to see this beautiful antique Sarouk-Fereghan carpet in your own home at a convenient time.
