A Sailormade Narrative Woolwork.
A fine Victorian woolwork picture made by a British sailor of the Royal Navy, titled ‘Off The Eddystone’ and with swagged flags of allegiance.
The scene shows us a busy sea around the Eddystone Lighthouse, Cornwall, the principal vessel flying the Admiralty flag from the mainmast having passed a Royal Navy Brig. There is a Navy Cutter following the brig and a small French boat in the foreground.
This large narrative woolwork retains its original walnut veneered frame with a silvered slip.
Circa 1860.
