Safavid blue and red pottery dish.
Iran, 17th Century.
19.5cm diameter.
This rare octagonal pottery dish has brown and white quatrefoil cartouches which enclose stylised vegetal scrolling design. The background is decorated with blue and white scrolling leaf motifs with a geometric border.
The flange has a blue border in a zig-zag format. The outer flange is divided into eight brackets with a stylised cross pattern. There is a pseudo-Chinese mark on the base.
