Early 19th Century Kingwood Nutcracker.
An exceptionally good quality well turned solid kingwood French screw type nutcracker of traditional form. Eating nuts was a popular pastime at functions and theatrical performances in the 18th and 19th centuries and many various designs may be found. A similar example can be seen illustrated in Treen for the Table by Jonathan Levi on page 166. It has an excellent grain, rich colour and patination.
French Circa 1820.
