A pleasing small 19th Century Coquilla Nut Go to Bed, having a turned finial for the match above an attractive body in two screw sections, that reveals a vacant interior for the storage of matches.
These were used in place of candles (which were expensive) and gave you enough light to go to bed. They were also used to melt sealing wax for letters and documents. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
English Circa 1880.
